4 CONZEN'S THEORY

Conzen maintains that street plan, building and land use change with time - land use most easily and street plan most slowly. Here in Stanley Place there is a Roman Street, Georgian building (originally a house) now a hotel.

Street plan - Roman
Building - Victorian
Land use - retail.
A fuller explanation of Conzen's theory is found in 'Urban Geography' by H.Carter. He based his ideas on original fieldwork in Alnwick, Northumberland.

Building - Georgian
Land use - offices

Building - Tudor house
